Nestled in the Rincon Mountains south of Saguaro National Park, Colossal Cave Mountain Park is full of stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone, among other.Cave has a lot of history/stories entertainment. I enjoy this cave more than any "wet" cave.Yahoo! Travelers give Colossal Cave Mountain Park four stars. All tour participants must be 12+ years old. Tours are held every Saturday night, and the deadline for sign-up is the prior Thursday, so be sure to call ahead for reservations. A knowledgeable guide talks about the cave’s history (it had been used for centuries by prehistoric peoples) and legends (it was a bandit hideout in the late 1800s).Īfter you've emerged from the depths of the earth's crust, a hearty buffet dinner will refill your Thetan vessel's inner grotto. With nothing more than a hardhat and headlamp, you and a small group of fellow spelunkers (7–12 people) will climb and squeeze through narrow tunnels and subterranean passages revealing exquisite stalactite and stalagmite formations. Take a look at Mother Nature’s sparkling tearcrystals with today's Groupon: for $18, you get a one-and-a-half-hour ladder tour of Colossal Cave plus dinner at Colossal Cave Mountain Park, about 45 minutes outside of Tucson. All in all we had a very enjoyable time there. When Mother Nature comes home from work, she takes off her hat, cries in it, and puts it upside down under the bed to be buried in clutter and made into a cave. Gates at the entrance to the park are locked at 5 pm until around 8am the next morning. NO CELL OR INTERNET SERVICE AS YOU ARE IN A CANYON. ![]() There is a 911 landline on a telephone pole at the "Y" entrance to these areas. The El Selvilla area has the spigot beyond the wash. There is a water spigot in both areas with fresh water. While we were there there was 1 other RV by us and a truck w/camper by the toilet area. Quite a few steps and stairs but my 90 year old mother made it through it! I recommend the cave tour.Ĭampgroud-($15 fee RV/$10 tent paid at cave gift store) is below the cave on a primative road and only 3 rv spots in La Selvilla area. To pass the time waiting we wandered around the parking lot checking out the various views from there. We tried to get tickets for the 1 pm Thursday tour and were told that that tour was sold out (limited to around 20) So, we purchased tickets for the 2 pm tour. I will share that experience after reviewing the cave tour. Cave tour-Our first stop was at the colossal cave campground, where with a RV we camped overnight. ![]()
